As the most anticipated show of Paris Fashion Week, Nicolas Ghesquière proved he was the perfect choice to replace Marc Jacobs with his debut of Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter collection.
Many wondered whether Ghesquière could succeed Marc Jacobs as the label’s new creative director.
The verdict was made. Ghesquière’s clear, coherent and masterful collection was a success, which he clearly captured Louis Vuitton’s essence.
The collection featured wintry palette of blacks, beiges, browns and the occasional dash of red, with leather used not only for accessories, but in many of the pieces themselves. Skirts were short, gently flared and cinched at the waist while trousers were tight-fitting. Overall, this is a casual and functional collection that every woman could modernity love.
Do you like the collection?
Break out the bubbly and popcorn because the 86th Academy Awards airs this Sunday on March 2! In its honor, I gathered up a few Oscar-themed sets straight from the runway. Who will you root for? Who will dress the best or the worse??
I remember one evening (years ago), I was home and didn’t have anything to do. I decided to go for a drive. I was driving for a few minutes when my car pulled into the Saks Fifth Avenue parking lot. It was close to 9:00 pm…8:45pm to be exact. And I knew the store was about to close soon. I told myself, go home and go to bed! Well my legs took over my mind and walked right into the store towards the Louis Vuitton counter. While standing in front of most beautiful brown bags I ever seen, I thought to myself, you didn’t do any research on what these bags are all about. I knew they were expensive, but my goodness they were so beautiful.
A nice lady came over and asked which bag interest me. I quickly pointed to the LV backpack. I went off in my imaginary land and saw myself holding the backpack in so many ways. Off one shoulder, over my shoulders, or just in my hand. I had to have it. This was a need, not a want. I came down to reality and looked at the price tag. WOW! I could have said thanks for your help ma’am but I’m going to pass. Nope, I pulled out my credit card and said I would like to purchase this backpack. There you have it, I purchased a good smelling leather EXPENSIVE Louis Vuitton backpack.
I walked out of Saks with my head up. I didn’t care how much that backpack cost. I felt GOOD! N[o matter if you are in sweats and flip flops, a designer handbag takes over your mind and body.
I’m sure everybody has done this type of impulsive handbag shopping before. If not, there is always a first. Try buying a nice designer handbag.
Here’s a sneak peek of the newest designer handbag styles currently hitting the shelves. Ignore the price tag! Which one are you getting TODAY?
Thrift stores can be the place to get the best clothes and accessories. If you’ve done thrift shopping before, you know the routine. If you have not, you are missing out! My sister is so into thrift shopping. When she finds a master piece, she would immediately call me and tell me all about it.
Thrifting goes beyond our average shopping experience because it invites us into an uncharted ground of vintage treasures and buried goods that are unlike anything we’d find in major retail stores. You need to have an open mind and lots of time and patience. You will quickly discover that secondhand doesn’t always mean bottom of the barrel! Here are some top reasons why hitting up your local thrift shop can be rewarding!
One-of-a-kind pieces. Palm tree-printed high-waist Versace jeans. A slouchy beanie. A retro Mickey Mouse jacket. Grandma sweaters. A-line wool plaid skirts. For the adventurous and outgoing, the magic of thrifting comes from the fact that a lot of the things you find are most often the only ones of their kind.
Nothing’s wrong with being on a budget. Give me a good discount anyday! Thrifting gives you the opportunity to buy designer finds at a mere fraction of their original price, denim jeans for under $10 and coats for a spare change. This is the best way to keep your wallet and closet full!
Creative stylist’s goldmine. Browsing through racks of vintage ensembles is like jumping into a fashion time machine. Not only do you get a hands-on look at what our couture predecessors wore, but you also get to think about re-purposing vintage finds into modern, wearable pieces or for personal design projects.
Some of the popular thrift stores with locations around the nation are Goodwill and The Salvation Army. Good luck and happy hunting!
I love jackets!! I love jackets that ooze coolness, power and a stylish flare that I cannot resist. There are tons of stylish jackets out there. But there is one that shows power - Military Jackets. They’ve been seen at the spring runway shows and now they’re hitting the streets. I get it, military jackets can look too masculine like you could be a Civil War reenactor. Here’s a tip - go the feminine route by adding it with a full skirt or skinny jeans with a lace blouse and pointy pumps. Here’s a few examples from our favorite stylesetters.
